Addon will change some What's New features in a more consistent and understandable way for new users.
The most important feature is probably the automatic refresh of the What's New!
- Always tick the What's new
menu If you select "New Post", Xenforo usually ticks the "Forums" menu. For more consistency, the add-on supports the option to always mark "What's New" for all items related to new content. The same goes for "All new profile posts". This will also work with any add-ons that use new content, like XFRM, XFMG, and third-party add-ons. - Auto-refresh/update What's new page and Latest activity [optional]
This will automatically refresh the first page of the What's New section every x seconds. It will also refresh the Latest activity page. Active users will love this feature if they open a window to view your forum. Users have the option to enable or disable the one-click auto-refresh feature. - User selects refresh frequency [optional]
Administrators can define a set of refresh frequency options in the admin panel. This allows your users to select the desired refresh period. - Add a refresh button to the What's new
section Additional buttons to refresh the What's new page more easily. - Add the "All posts" item to the menu
This will call up a page containing all the new posts (read and unread).. - Remove the additional menu bar [Optional]
The What's new section contains an additional menu bar with items that are essentially the same as the normal navigation menu. This is confusing, so you can disable it for the on-screen view. For mobile view, this menu bar can be useful, so you can leave it in mobile view if you want. - Hide search id from New Posts page [option]
Hide search id is usually displayed in the browser's address bar. This makes it easier for your visitors to refresh or bookmark New Posts.
For example, https://www.domain.com//whats-new/posts/326902/ will be replaced with https://www.domain.com//whats-new/posts/ in your browser's address bar. - Remove the "What's new" menu item from the [option] navigation bar
- Change the lightning bolt icon pointing to whats-new/posts/ [option]
After installation, recommended (but not necessary!) Modified some navigation items to make things more intuitive/consistent. This will really help your users understand what's going on:
- Go to Admin control panel > Setup > Public navigation
- Turn off "New posts" in the "Forums" section (this will force your users to use a place for new items).
- Turn off "New profile posts" in the "Members" section (this will force your users to use a place for new items).
- Modify the "What's new" section, change the link to: {{ link('whats-new/posts/') }} The "whats-new"
link is basically the same as "whats-new/posts/" but with a different layout. To make things more consistent, choose to always use "whats-new/posts/" as this is the best way to present new posts.
